    Job Summary

    To build, maintain and support Maximus UK IT systems in a commercially effective manner.
    The Linux Systems Administrator will focus on core Linux infrastructure components whilst provisioning new systems through Ansible and vSphere, monitoring production systems/performance. Troubleshooting and resolving issues and managing updates to production systems are also required.

    Essential Job Duties

    Server/Network Infrastructure
    • Developing and maintaining deployment automation systems (currently using Gitlab CI)
    Contingency Responsibilities for Head Office:
    • Implement DR Plan responsibilities as required

    • System monitoring, incident resolution and developer on-boarding
    • Liaising with developers to gather requirements for new functionality and provisioning
    • To design, develop and test configuration changes to applications at the application layer.
    Helpdesk
    • Accepting 3rd line tickets escalated from the helpdesk, or directly from Development colleagues
    Security
    • Monitoring relevant security advisories and applying relevant mitigations
    • Maintaining IT security across the company in accordance with our policies
    Other
    • Resolve incidents in line with agreed service levels.
    • Meeting deadlines as set within change requests.
    • Anticipating problems and testing and validating changes prior to implementation, so minimising changes that don’t deliver the required outcomes.
    • Robust Change Management Practices
    • Evaluation and implementation of new hardware / Software
    • Liaising with suppliers and ordering services
    • Creating And Maintaining Documentation
    Also Providing support on:
    • Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
    • Design and develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools
    • Develop and maintain configuration management solutions
    • Develop test automation frameworks in collaboration with rest of the team
    • Create tools to help teams make the most out of the available infrastructure
    Contingency Responsibilities for Head Office:

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Strong technical skills and proven hands on track record, especially with Linux servers in a virtualised environment.
    • Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages.
    • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Galera MySQL, ProxySQL, GlusterFS and nginx.

    • Strong grasp on configuration management tools, such as Ansible.
    • Familiarity with load balancing, firewalls, etc.
    • Proficient with network tools such as iptables, Linux IPVS, HAProxy
    • Ability to prioritise incoming workload effectively and plan forward based on collected metrics and business needs
    • Ability to communicate effectively in plain English to all levels of staff, both verbally and in written format.
    • Working effectively within an Information Security Management System/ISO27001 environment.
